FC Scotspurs played our second One For The League match and battled out a 2-2 draw with Ormond Saints to go back top of the table. It's been two months since we opened the campaign with an excellent 5-1 win at Queens Park.
We had a pretty threadbare team, with the same eleven playing the entire 90 minutes, and two players - Derek Jarvie and Barry Oswald came in for their debuts. From the side that put Queens Park to the sword in September only Steve Oliver, Gav McDonald, Neil Quigley and Mike Vallance remained.
The first half was fairly even and we came close through a Neil Quigley effort that bounced back off the post but the hosts took the lead just before half - time when Steve MacPhee was allowed time to jink into the box and fire past Heller.
Early in the second half the hosts doubled that advantage when Left Back Graeme Laing cut inside and fired a dipping shot into the postage stamp corner. Ormond Saints looked to get a grip of the game and it looked ominous for Scotspurs.
With 15 minutes left we pulled a goal back and it was Craig Oliver who battled through a couple of challenges before squeezing a shot under Craig Taylor. It was no more than we deserved for our endeavours. With the match ebbing away from us Steve Oliver jinked his way through the box and managed to get a chipped shot away which came back off the bar.
As the game looked to be petering out Ormond Saints won a throw in deep in their own half on the left. Thankfully for us, Graeme Laing was woefully short in his throw in back to keeper Craig Taylor and Gav McDonald capitalised, running onto the throw to beat Taylor and fire a low shot into the bottom right to give us a deserved point.

FC Scotspurs went into this One For The Road League game having never beaten Queens Park in four previous attempts and with only one previous win at 11's level, and at that in a shortened 15 minute a half game against Ormond Saints in the Caledonian Spring Cup in April.
So essentially Iain Campbell and his Queens Park side were no doubt favourites going into the game, having posted two wins from three in their games so far this season. However, unlike in previous games, we got the formation right and held our game plan well to ensure a fantastic result against a QP side that never gave up and didn't actually play all that badly.
We took an early lead when Neil Quigley was released by a fantastic Steve Oliver through ball and that was soon doubled when the same player tapped in from a couple of yards after great play from Mark Smith to set him up. Young Smithy showed great tenacity in the run up to Neil's easy tap in.
It wasn't all one way though and a fantastic lob from Paul Joyce saw the Spiders pull one back and they may have scored more in the first half, with a header smashing back off the bar and a couple of chances being wasted. Danny Oliver might have put us 3-1 up towards the end of the half but after a great run he lost his composure, much like a virgin would trying to throw his sausage up a close for the first time! Sorry Dan!!!
HALF TIME - Queens Park 1 FC Scotspurs 2
Into the second period we started to take control with Ray Bates providing real energy and no little ability in the middle of the park. Ray got himself on the scoresheet, deservedly so, and was heavily involved in the brace that substitute Graham Rennie scored in the second half. Queens were not at all helped by the number of injuries they picked up throughout the game but nevertheless they put in a dogged display and will no doubt be much improved when we come to play them in our 'home' game some time in the new year.
Once again Mike Chadwick was exceptional between the sticks for us and in defence the starting quartet of Mike Vallance, Stuart McDonald, Gav McDonald and Alan Holloway were solid enough. In the middle Davie Bates, Steve Oliver, Danny Oliver, Ray Bates and Mark Smith did the job well and Neil Quigley did a fantastic job as a lone striker. As the game progressed Graham Rennie and Steve Gibson joined the fray and both added to a great team performance, with Graham in particular outstanding in the middle of the park.
Not for the first time though it was Ray Bates who was the star man - full of running, always wanting the ball and making himself available. After the game he was presented with his man of the match trophy and i am sure he loved his refresher bar!!
Afterwards we went back to the Queens Park Social Club at Hampden for the hospitality and to have the crack with the QP lads and watch the big Spurs get humped 3-0 at Chelsea - see it's all that ying yang carry on!!!
Once again, thanks to Iain Campbell and his team for having us.
Team - Chadwick, Holloway, S. McDonald, G. McDonald, Vallance, D. Oliver, R. Bates, D. Bates, S. Oliver, Smith, N. Quigley.
Subs - Rennie and Gibson (both used)

Tomorrow, Sunday 20th September, sees FC Scotspurs take on Queens Park SFC at Toryglen Sports Centre in Glasgow, in the opening game of the newly created One For The Road League. This is our away game at Queens Park.
At this late stage we have a squad of 14 heading into the game, which is good news as we were expecting to have a threadbare 12 as late as this morning. Our record against Queens needs to improve very much if we are to take the points, having lost 1-3, 0-1 and 0-7 to them in 11's games. We managed a 1-1 draw with them in The Scotspurs Sevens in August in a game that decided our fate as wooden spoonists!!!!
Come on You Scotspurs!!
Sunday 29th August 2009
FC Scotspurs have a couple of games arranged for September and October. Firstly, we will play Queens Park SFC in Glasgow on Sunday September 20th. Finer details are still to be announced but the kick off will be arranged with the big teams live tv game against Chelsea in mind.
For October, we will play a small sided game against a Bournemouth supporters team on Sunday 18th October, the day after we play Portsmouth at Fratton Park - confirmed for the trip are Steve Oliver, Danny Oliver, Gav McDonald, Rob Osborne and Ross McInnes as well as Rob's better half.
This season will also see us play in a 4 team mini league with Queens Park, Ormond Saints and Appin and the game against QP in September will be the first game in that wee competition - no other dates are confirmed as yet.
Sunday 9th August 2009
Today saw our first Sevens tournament take place at Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh. Despite a few logistical problems as the competition approached we managed to get kicked off, around 15 minutes late, at 1.15. The fixture list was amended suitably as we knew that a couple of teams were en route but were having problems getting through Edinburgh with the roadworks and the Festival playing havoc.
PSJ and FC Scotspurs along with Queens Park and Edinburgh Saints got the tournament underway, with the hosts going down 1-0 and Queens Park edging out Edinburgh Saints 3-2. Overall the games were played in the right spirit and we managed to get the football finished by around quarter to five.

Thankyou to all the teams who attended the tourney today and especially the lads from Appin who had a mega journey to be there. Thanks to all who helped keep time in the games, and especially to Danny and Steve Oliver who helped on so much with little things on the day.
Thanks also must go to the staff at Scotties Bar in Northfield Broadway for providing a buffet and to everyone who came back to the pub afterwards. Iain Campbell, Jim Weir and Gav Stewart deserve special mention for their teams efforts in staying on at the boozer.
Finally, congratulations to Abler in winning the tournament today.

The First Scotspurs Sevens takes place in ten days time at Meadowbank Sports Centre, with 7 of the 8 places now confirmed. Queens Park, Ormond Saints, PSJ, Abler, Appin and Edinburgh Saints and of course ourselves will fight it out. There are one or two other irons in the fire for the 8th place but if we need to run with seven then it will be no problem and the format will change to a round robin league as opposed to 2 smaller groups.
Sunday 19th July
FC Scotspurs battled it out with Falkirk Supporters team Bairnfica AFC today for the John White Memorial Trophy at Alloa Athletic’s Recreation Park.
Despite a 3-1 defeat we were very competitive and perhaps deserved better as all three Bairns goals could be described as lucky.
The first half was evenly poised and Sandy Quigley should have put us a goal up 5 minutes before the break when with just the keeper to beat he tried to lift it into the net rather than skelp it past him.
As it was Bairnfica scored the opener just on half time when a mishit 20 yard shot found its way past the excellent Mikey Chadwick in our goal.
Soon after the break The Bairns went 2-0 up when a Danny Oliver sliding clearance rattled back of the Falkirk attacker and into the net.
Within a few minutes we pulled a deserved goal back. A move involving Ally McIntosh, Sandy Quigley and Gav McDonald saw the latter hold off a Bairnfica challenge and release Neil Quigley who saw off a challenge before finishing coolly past the advancing keeper.
At that time we were on top and Ally McIntosh had a great opportunity to gain parity but screwed his shot wide from the edge of the area.
Bairnfica were then awarded a dubious penalty when Steve Oliver and an attacker challenged for a through ball. It looked like Steve won the ball but a spot kick was awarded and Bairnfica’s Stephen Hoggan converted from 12 yards to seal victory for his side.
Team (4-1-4-2) Chadwick, Millar, D.Oliver, Heller, Holloway, J.Oliver, R.Bates, McDonald, S.Oliver, N.Quigley and S.Quigley.
Subs – McIntosh and D.Bates.
After this game the FC Scotspurs Kitty stands at the princely sum of £10.00.

ITS ALMOST HERE!!
It's now only two days till FC Scotspurs battle it out with Bairnfica AFC for the John White Memorial Trophy at Alloa Athletic's Recreation Park. Until now there has been very little movement in the squad with Ally McIntosh having made himself available after initially ruling himself out and Leon Yau has picked up an injury which might mean he misses the game.
The game has a 1pm start and everyone is reminded that if they are not too busy they should get themselves along to Alloa to support the lads. There is a refreshment bar open and there will be a programme available on the day.
Squad at 17th July - Colin Heller, Mikey Keeper, Jim Oliver, Andy Millar, Danny Oliver, Alan Holloway, Davie Bates, Ray Bates, Ally McIntosh, Gav McDonald, Neil Quigley, Sandy Quigley, Steve Oliver, Ross McInnes and Leon Yau (injury doubt).

Tuesday July 7th 2009
Its now just under a fortnight until our big game with Bairnfica at Recreation Park in Alloa. We play the Falkirk Supporters Team for the John White Memorial Trophy at the ground where the tragic player started his career before moves to Falkirk and then Tottenham.
The match programme for the game is all but ready and we have secured sponsorship for that with Grant Todd at www.edinburghsouth.minutemanpress.com sponsoring it. A big thankyou to Grant for that.
Hopefully we will see a few of the players family and friends in the stands as we get the chance to strut our stuff at a senior ground. There will be a refreshment stall open and there will be a token admission charge on the day to help both teams meet the cost of the event.
Tuesday 16th June 2009

The first FC Scotspurs Sevens will take place on Sunday 9th August at Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh with the tournament kicking off at 1PM.
Further details will be available later.

FC Scotspurs yesterday took part in The Ian Younger Sixes at Lesser Hampden and went onto a respectable quarter final place before bowing out to eventual finalists Coasters. Paired up in Group D with Shrewsbury Town, Nottingham Forest and MacDonald Rovers we negotiated that stage with two great wins from three.
Our first game, against Shrewsbury, saw us race into a two goal lead courtesy of Danny Oliver and Sandy. However within about 30 seconds of the restart The Shrews had pulled it back to 2-2 and it looked like they might go onto win. However Sandy scored a fantastic solo goal and we defended brilliantly to hold on for a 3-2 win. The team against The Shrews was Martin, Stevie M, Alan, Danny, Sandy and Gav. Neither Mark nor Steve O came on.
In our second group game we faced Nottingham Forest and we changed it around a little with Gav in goal and both Mark and Steve O making an appearance. We played superbly well and posted a 5-0 win with Sandy grabbing them all, though we decided to donate his 5th to Alan as he really should have squared it the greedy $5^*&^^%!!!!!
Our third game saw the pressure off as we had already qualified for the knock out stages. We lost 2-0 to Appin side MacDonald Rovers in that game.
Onto the quarter finals and we faced Coasters, a side made up with some guys from the amatuer scene in the Oban area, and despite taking the lead through Sandy we eventually ran out of steam and went down 4-1. Coaster went on to skelp PSG 7-1 in the semi final before losing out to Appin (winners in the Spring Cup we played in at Perth too) in the final.
After the football it was great to see the entire squad go for an Indian together in the nearby Shezan before going back to the Queens Park Social Club for the presentation and a few drinks and dances to The Specials!!
The day passed by without any hint of bother from our guys and i am sure we will be welcome back to next years event. Thanks to everyone who made the effort to be there and hang around for a while afterwards too. It was a pretty big commitment and one that was really appreciated.
£10.00 of the FC Scotspurs Kitty money was used to help cover the cost of the tournament, leaving £8 remaining.
Tuesday 9th June 2009

FC Scotspurs will play Falkirk Supporters team Bairnfica on Sunday 19th July at Recreation Park, home of Scottish Senior side Alloa Athletic.
The game will be played for a Trophy in memorial of John White, the Spurs, Falkirk and Scotland legend killed on a golf course at Enfield in 1964.
The match will kick off at 1PM and we have full use of all the facilities and the ground will be open for anyone that would like to come along and support us. The refreshment stall will be open and it is hoped that there will be a souvenir programme available on the day.
If anyone or any business would like to consider sponsoring us for this event, or would like to advertise in the programme then please email us at scotspurs@hotmail.co.uk

Wednesday 15th April 2009
FC Scotspurs last night fell to a 9-1 defeat at Stirling Uni against Beechwood Albion. We made a positive start to the game and David Bates and Owen Atkinson both had decent efforts before we went a goal down, probably against the run of play. As the first half came to an end there was a flurry of goals with the home side going 3-0 up before a superbly finished penalty from Ray Bates brought us back into the game. Not for long however as Albion netted a further two before the break to lead 5-1. The second half saw Beechwood add another 4 without reply, though bizarre as it sounds, we did have a few chances and on another day the score may have been a lot closer. Gav McDonald really should have scored, having done the hard work rounding the keeper, put a foot wide from the edge of the box.
Overall a day when we defended as poorly as we have done and were toothless in attack. Emerging with particular credit from the game were Owen Atkinson and debut keeper Mikey. Now we have to look forward to a game on sunday against Queens Park at Toryglen Sports Centre in Glasgow.
Team - Mikey Keeper, Richie Murrell, Tuncay, Dan Oliver, Alan Holloway, Owen Atkinson, David Dutch, Ray Bates, Craig Oliver, Gav McDonald and David Bates.
Subs - Martin Jackson, Shaun Currie

FC Scotspurs today took part in the Ormond Saints SFC Spring Cup on the North Inch in Perth. Three games were played against Queens Park SFC, Ormond Saints SFC and Appin were played.
In our first game, against Queens, we lost 1-0 despite playing well, particularly in the first half. In our second game we played Ormond Saints SFC and had a terrific 3-0 win with Daryl Yau, Craig Oliver and Ray Bates on the scoresheet. The second and third goals in particular were things of beauty, the second a great hit from 25 yards from Craig Oliver and the third a superb finish from Ray Bates after a great move involving him and his brother David.
In our third game we lost 2-0 to tournament winners Appin with two goalkeeper mistakes allowing the side from Oban the win. Oh yeah, and we won the Fair Play award.

FC Scotspurs last night took to the field for our first 11's match, and although we were on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline, there were many positives to take from the game. Bairnfica, who play in The Scottish Supporters League and train twice a week, were made to work hard for their victory. The Falkirk side took an 8th minute lead and went onto lead 2-0 before Tommy Cheeseman reduced the deficit after a lovely move. After our goal we had a wee rally and were a little unlucky to in at half - time 2-1 down.
We made a game of it in the second half but Bairnfica managed a further 2 goals without reply. We came close through Atkinson who hit the bar with a 20 yard effort, McInnes who hit an excellent free kick that was headed off the line and a corner from McInnes was also headed off the line. McDonald and McIntosh also both went close with low efforts as we pushed the hosts.
Team - Colin Heller, Jim Oliver, Dan Oliver, Steve Oliver, Richie Murrell, Owen Atkinson, David Dutch, Ray Bates, Ross McInnes, Ally McIntosh, Gav McDonald. Subs - David Bates, Alan Holloway and Tommy Cheeseman.
