FC Scotspurs next game confirmed

Friday November 27th 2009

FC Scotspurs next One For The Road League match will take place on Sunday 13th December against Queens Park SFC in Glasgow. Having started the mini league with a 5-1 win against the same side in September we will be confident of delivering another positive result. The exact venue and kick-off time has still to be decided, but it's hoped it will be at Toryglen Sports Centre. FC Scotspurs currently top the league, and a win against Queens Park would cement that position.

Villa vs Spurs 28/11/09

Friday November 27th 2009

Spurs head to Birmingham tomorrow to face fellow top 4 challengers Aston Villa at Villa Park. Last season's fixture produced a 2-1 win for Spurs, and more of the same would be fine in the ESPN late kick-off. Martin O'Neill and his side made a slightly stuttering start to the campaign, losing on opening day against Wigan at home, but have recovered well, posting impressive wins against Liverpool at Anfield and Chelsea at home along the way.

For Spurs, confidence will high after the 9-1 mauling of Wigan last Sunday at The Lane, though clearly this will be a much sterner task.

Good day for Scotspurs

Tuesday 24th November 2009

Sunday proved to be a good day for the Scotspurs boys. Trailing 2-0 to Ormond Saints, FC Scotspurs fought back to draw 2-2 with Ormond Saints at Crieff in a One For The Road League tie, whilst the big team were thrashing Wigan 9-1 at The Lane.

REPORT ON THE FC SCOTSPURS GAME IN THE FC SCOTSPURS SECTION

Preston 1 Spurs 5 23/09/09

Thursday 24th September 2009

Spurs last night saw off Championship side Preston North End at Deepdale to ensure a passage to round 4 of The Carling Cup. The result at Deepdale mirrored that in the previous round at Doncaster. There was a good turnout of Scotspurs down for the game and we witnessed a goals from Defoe, Keane and a Peter Crouch hat - trick, the last of which won Gav, Steve and Danny fifty quid each as they had a quid on 5-1 at 50/1! Well done Crouchy!!

There should be some photos from the trip on the site within the next few days.

Mixed bag for Scotspurs

Sunday 20th September 2009

FC Scotspurs earlier recorded a fine 5-1 win at Toryglen in Glasgow over Queens Park SFC in The One For The Road League, but afterwards we had to suffer watching Spurs losing 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.

A brace each for Neil Quigley and Graham Rennie and a Ray Bates goal gave us the three points in Glasgow whilst the big team were falling to goals from Ashley Cole, Ballack and Drogba saw Chelsea gain the 3 points.

Scotspurs face Queens as big boys face Chelsea

Sunday 20th September 2009

FC Scotspurs today face Queens Park SFC in Glasgow in our opening game of the newly created One For The Road League, whilst Spurs make the short trip to Stamford Bridge to take on early pacesetters Chelsea in the Sky Sports 4pm televised game.

The Scotspurs game kicks off at 1pm at Toryglen Sports Centre in Glasgow and most of the team will be heading to The Queens Park Social Club at Hampden after the game to see the big team in action and lap up the hospitality that Iain Campbell and his Queens Park team will provide.

Anyone who fancies watching both games with us should head down to Toryglen and i am sure they will be made most welcome in the Social Club afterwards.

The Ormond Saints Spring Cup

Thursday 26th February 2009

FC Scotspurs have been invited to take part in a four team eleven a side tournament in Perth on Sunday 5th April. Hosts Ormond Saints SFC, Oban side Appin and The Queens Park SFC side will make up the teams.

I understand the plan is for each team to play the others once in a group set up, with each match lasting half an hour.

After the football there will be a presentation and some hospitality in a local pub.

A tale of two Cups

Saturday 24th January 2009

This week has saw Spurs progress to the final of one cup competition and fall at the 4th round in another. In deepest Lancashire on Wednesday night, we faced a decent Burnley side at Turf Moor. Winning 4-1 from the first leg, Spurs very nearly threw it all way, with Blake, McCann (pictured scoring) and Rodriguez giving The Clarets a 3-0 lead after 90 minutes. Extra time ensued, and if the scores had remained the same, Burnley would have progressed on the away goal rule. Quite why this doesn't apply after 90 minutes in this competition is beyond me, and i am sure thousands of Burnley fans too, but thats the rules, and thankfully for Tottenham it worked out okay in the end. The Very End!

With 28 minutes of the extra time period played, Owen Coyle' men were still 3-0 up on the night, and seemingly destined for a place in the March 1st Final against Manchester United, when Bale played the ball left to Assou - Ekotto who played it low into the box for Roman Pavlyuchenko to steer past Brian Jensen on the twist. Literally seconds later Defoe ran onto a through ball and finished with some applomb from 18 yards out.

Over the two legs, probably not really what Burnley deserved, but there you go.

Earlier tonight we travelled to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the 4th Round of The FA Cup, and despite taking a 5th minute lead through a Roman Pavlyuchenko header we lost 2-1 with Scholes and Berbatov scoring within 90 seconds of each other towards the end of the first half.

Spurs had chances to claw their way back into the game, but the best chance fell to Dos Santos, who managed to put it over the top from 6 yards out.

Now it's back to Premier League business and the visit of Stoke City to The Lane on Tuesday, before a trip to play Bolton at The Reebok in a weeks time.

Who would have guessed back at the start of the campaign that these two forthcoming matches could be amongst our most important of the season?

Burnley v Spurs - Carling Cup Semi Final 2nd Leg 21/01/09

Tuesday 20th January 2009
Spurs will head to Burnley on Wednesday for the Carling Cup Semi Final second leg at Turf Moor in confident mood, with a 4-1 lead from the first leg and after a better team performance in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Portsmouth at The Lane.

Of course, it looks like we have secured a place in a second successive Carling Cup final but Spurs being Spurs i am not going to count my chickens.

Harry Redknapp has indicated that Gomes will be rested for this game (and the FA Cup tie at Old Trafford on Saturday) so a full debut for Ben Alnwick is expected, three years after he joined Spurs from Sunderland.

Spurs 1 Pompey 1

 Sunday 18th January 2009

Spurs today entertained Portsmouth at The Lane, and it proved to be a fairly exciting and enjoyable match, with both sides having plenty of chances. Spurs probably had the better of those and should have wrapped up the three points with 80 minutes showing on the clock - Darren Bent heading wide from 6 yards after good work on the left from Bentley.

The game started brightly and there was a few tackles flying in - Crouch guilty of a couple of late challenges from behind, which went unpunished - and there was chances at both ends. For Spurs Defoe blasted just wide after a Traore pass across the field was mishit to the little swordsman who saw off the challenge of Sol Campbell only to steer his left foot shot beyond the post. Defoe also had a header tipped over by David James after great work on the right from an impressive Lennon. Pavlyuchenko had an opportunity from a corner but his back post hook rebounded back off Defoe.

For Pompey in the first half Crouch and Traore had chances, and Gomes had to be lively to deny Crouch after he had parried a shot from distance. David Nugent had a couple of decent chances but had left his shooting boots in the dressing room.

The first half was also notable for the early exit of both Pavlyuchenko and Ledley King. The Russian with an ankle knock and King with a hamstring complaint.

The second half started in much the same vein, and after some Spurs pressure, Pompey keeper James made an excellent save from a deflection and within 19 seconds the ball was up the other end and nestling in the Spurs net. Corluka made a great challenge to nip the ball away from Traore, but it fell to Nugent who hit a low angled drive that nicked a defender before beating Gomes on his right hand side. Typical sucker punch, and although Pompey certainly didnt come to play on the break or sneak a draw, it was probably undeserved from a Spurs point of view.

When the equaliser came it was the sign for Spurs to dominate the remainder of the game. The goal itself was a good one. Defoe had his back to goal 35 yards out so he looked to find Modric who had made a run, the little Croatian surged to the edge of the box before playing Defoe back in and the wee striker finished superbly on his left foot from the edge of the box.

With 20 minutes remaining Bentley replaced Bale, with O'Hara moving to left back and it made an impact as Bentley had one of his best spells in a Lilywhite shirt. He created what should have been the winner for Bent with 10 minutes remaining, but somehow the number 10 managed to head wide when it looked impossible not to score. Disappointing doesn't do it justice.

Overall a decent performance and much improvement on some recent league games, but in the end a result, that whilst not awful, is not really what the majority in the ground had desired. Dawson, on for the injured King, had an excellent match as did Croatian Vedran Corluka, whilst Lennon was his usual menacing self.

Spurs v Pompey - 18th January 2009

Saturday 17th January 2009

Tomorrow sees Portsmouth at The Lane, in a game that is being billed a grudge match. It is not too difficult to see why. However, more than any grudge is the three points at stake and Spurs need them more than ever. With the next league match at home to Stoke after Pompey' visit a 6 point haul could see us pull clear of the bottom a little. Anything less and we could be deep in the mire.

With rumours galore this week about who is coming to Spurs and who is leaving you would expect a new face in the line - up for the visit of Tony Adams men. Alas nay, as apparent deals for Wilson Palacios, Craig Bellamy and Stephen Appiah have, for whatever reason failed. So it is the same squad who lost meekly at Wigan last Sunday.

On the injury front Jermaine Jenas is a doubt with a calf strain, and Alan Hutton is of course long term. Left back Benoit Assou-Ekotto is still banned after his red card at West Brom in December.

So to this apparent grudge. It could be a little spicy, there is no doubt. With Redknapp and Defoe still fresh from their Pompey days no doubt the South Coast fans will have a reason to make sure that Harry and Jermain have burning ears. Throw ex - Southampton player Gareth Bale into the mix and the Pompey lot will have plenty to keep them occupied. For Spurs fans there is of course a certain centre back that might get a bit of stick, along with Tony Adams.

Wigan 1 Spurs 0 - 11/01/09

Monday 12th January 2009

Spurs started off the new year in the league in the same fashion as they ended the previous one. Just like at West Brom, and indeed Newcastle, a late goal was enough to see us beaten. A solitary point from 4 games against teams around us in the league has saw us slip back into the bottom three, and with only one goal in 5 league games it is a slightly worrying time.

This game at a cold JJB Stadium started brightly enough and for the opening 15 minutes or so you felt it was a game we could get something from, and perhaps even win. However from there on in, we were rarely a threat to Wigan keeper Kirkland, though Spurs stopper Gomes had little to do either, such was the dull nature of this encounter.

Wigan may be in a strong position in the league, and are on a great run at the moment, but on the evidence of this game that may be down to how poor some other teams are. Frankly, it was a game neither team deserved anything from, but the late Wigan winner was a dagger nevertheless.

The officials, Ref Andre Mariner and his assistants, did their best to spoil a game that the two sides were doing were doing themselves, with some strange decisions and he awarded plenty of soft free - kicks. Gareth Bale, however, was lucky to only see a yellow card, when he made a late lunge on a Melchiot. Another decision Mariner probably got wrong as he gave the out of sorts Bale a chance.

Overall a poor display, and with two home games on the horizon in the league - Pompey on Saturday and Stoke on the 27th - Six points is a must. In between times there is a trip to Burnley for the second leg of the Carling semi and a FA Cup clash at Old Trafford.

Wigan v Spurs 11/01/09

Thursday 8th January 2009

Spurs travel to Lancashire on Sunday to face Wigan Athletic at The JJB, just over a week after the teams met at White Hart Lane in the FA Cup.

Spurs ran out 3-1 winners in that game, thanks to a Roman Pavlyuchenko double and a single counter from Luka Modric, but it was a difficult encounter against Steve Bruce' team, and no doubt Sunday will see an equally tricky encounter.

Spurs will hope to have new/old striker Jermain Defoe in the line - up after his return from Portsmouth after a year down at Fratton Park, and there is talk that Ghanian midfielder Stephen Appiah, who has been training with Spurs this week, could feature if his trial has been a success.

Spurs record at The JJB is reasonable enough, having played there three times, winning once and drawing the other two. The win, in November 2005, came courtesy of Robbie Keane and Edgar Davids. Though Wigan pulled a late goal back through Lee McCulloch, 5000 Spurs fans went home happy.

The next season, the sides shared a 3-3 draw, as Spurs pushed for their second successive 5th place finish, and last season it was a 1-1 draw as Spurs season petered out after the Carling Cup victory over Chelsea at Wembley.

My prediction - another draw written all over it i think, and given the recent league form of The Latics, that would be a point gained.

Spurs - Wembley Bound?

Wednesday 7th January 2009

After the 4-1 win against Championship side Burnley in Tuesday' Carling Cup Semi - final 1st leg, Spurs have one foot in the final.

Despite an appalling first half display in which Martin Paterson gave Burnley a 1-0 lead, Spurs came out after the break and turned it around superbly, mainly orchestrated by Jamie O'Hara, a half time replacement for the ineffectual David Bentley.

Within two minutes of the restart O'Hara managed something that Bentley struggles with and found the head of a Spurs player from a corner, with Dawson powering home the set piece at the back post. Soon after it was 2-1 as O'Hara shot into the ground from 12 yards and the ball squirmed under Jensen in The Clarets goal.

Goal number three was a pretty finish from Russian Roman Pavlyuchenko who recieved a pass from Bale 25 yards out and made his way to goal before firing a low left shot wide of the keeper and into the corner of the net.

Number 4 came soon after and again O'Hara was involved, swinging in a free - kick that Burnley defender Mike Duff could only divert into his own net in an attempt to head clear.

The result certainly makes the return leg at Turf Moor on January 21st a little more comfortable, although we should know well as Spurs fans, that we should never take anything for granted.

FC Scotspurs win first ever match.

4th January 2009

FC Scotspurs made their footballing debut this afternoon at Bells Sports Centre in Perth, and posted an excellent 18-9 victory in a 5 - a - side game against a St.Johnstone Supporters Team. The line - up was Richie Murrell, Gav McDonald, Steve Oliver, Leon Yau and Dan Oliver. Richie Murrell went off injured early in the game and was replaced by a Leeds United fan called Roman!

Man United in the FA Cup

4th January 2009

Spurs were today drawn against Manchester United, again, in the draw for the 4th round of The FA Cup. The match will take place on the weekend of 24th/25th January at Old Trafford.

Spurs 5 Goons 1 - Carling Cup Semi, 2nd Leg

Tuesday January 22nd 2008, White Hart Lane

As a Spurs fan of nearly 20 years standing it has been difficult watching most North London derby matches. In that time, only a handful of wins have been achieved over the South London imposters and along the way there has been some painful defeats, and even drawn matches, when somehow, we have managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory or had to settle for a share of the spoils when it really should have been different.

This though, has just eased those painful memories, and, for now at least, we are Kings of North London. It is ever so slightly difficult, nay impossible, for me to write this without feeling the need to be gleeful and smug but i will do my best. I hate The Goons, simple really, and they have made many a day sad for me. This was payback.

Of course, they could rabbit on about it being their reserves, or the "kids" but plainly Arsenal fielded a team that would not really look too out of place in the Premier League. Amongst the starters were club captain William Gallas, former club captain Gilberto, vastly experienced Belarussian Hleb, regular first team players Sagna, Diaby and Hoyte as well as several others with International experience and the like. Just for good measure Fabregas came on, at 1-0 Spurs, on 20 minutes.

Anyway the day started well enough, the hours drive to the train station in Edinburgh passing without any hassle. There i met up with another couple of Scotspurs and we boarded the 11am train bound for Kings Cross. The journey was fairly uneventful and match chat was kept to a minimum as several tinnies were consumed.

We got into Kings Cross around four, headed for the hotel near Victoria, dropped the bags and started to head up Tottenham way, only stopping at a nice wee pub in Pimlico before jumping on the tube for Seven Sisters. We decided to walk from there as the trains were coming in from Liverpool Street jam packed solid and there was little chance of getting on one.

Have to make a little mention of the Jamaican place on the High Road, about half way between Seven Sisters and the ground. Top notch patties!

By the time we got up to The Lane it was about half seven, so in we went for a pint and to get some pre match atmosphere. Eventually 8 o'clock arrived and my nerves were already shredded. Thankfully 3 minutes later Jenas helped sort that out with a great finish after a neat run. JJ loves playing Arsenal, and i love JJ, so all is good.

Over the next 20 minutes or so The Goons threaten rarely and only a couple of wild efforts well over are produced by Wengers team. The pace is fairly frantic, but Spurs are playing quite well, responding superbly to the noise being created by everyone with blue and white blood. It is incessant, non stop and probably the best atmosphere i have experienced at the dear old lady we call home.

On 27 minutes, bedlam! - It's 2-0 Spurs! Jenas floats in a wicked free - kick from distance, Dawson goes up for the challenge with Bendtner and the Dane has the misfortune to beat Daws to the ball and put it past Fabianski into his own net. Three minutes later and Berbs is going to wrap it up. Jenas is involved again, playing the Bulgarian in, but his effort when clean through smacks the base of the Polish International keepers goal and rebounds to safety. Lucky escape for the Goons.

Half - time arrives and Spurs still look very assured. It gives us a wee opportunity to rest the voicebox. During the break i start thinking of the different ways the game might go. Yep, early second half goal is the key here. We must not do a Martin Jol, and sit back.

Cue Robbie Keane. Three minutes after the restart he races through onto a superb ball and beats Fabianski for three nothing. Absolute madness. Wild scenes. Is this really happening?

Number 4 is not that long in coming and this time it is Lennon. The winger exchanges passes with Keane before a cool finish is slotted past the keeper. Now we know. Now we are certain. Spurs are on their way to Wembley!!!

Soon after The Goons pull one back, and in fairness it's not a bad strike, Adebayor beating the otherwise superb Cerny with a 20 yarder into the postage stamp corner. For a little while after Woolwich huffed and puffed a little but the back four, superbly assisted in particular by Tainio and Jenas held firm and in truth they never looked like adding to their single strike.

On 90 minutes Steed Malbranque put the icing on the cake, ghosting in at the far post to finish a low Jenas cross after JJ had wonderfully worked the opportunity, skinning his man on the right.

In summary - superb, brilliant, marvelous, fucking amazing. Words do not do it justice. Jenas was awesome, Tainio fantastic, the back four solid, Cerny was safe, Lennon, Keane, Steed, Berbs, all brilliant.

Thank You Juande, Thank You Gus, Thank You all those players out there.

Stevenage 1 Spurs 3 - The Goals

Bits & Pieces

Aaron Lennon has today signed a new 5 year deal at Spurs. Good news indeed. Our flying winger has committed himself to us despite some rumours regarding his future.

It was also announced today that details for the Uefa Cup clash with Feyenoord in Rotterdam will now have to be put on hold as the hearing for their off field problems cast no answers as yet.

Southend or Barnsley if we can beat Cardiff

 08/01/07

Should Spurs put Cardiff City to the sword in the FA Cup 3rd round replay next week, then they will have a home tie in round 4 against either Barnsley or Carling Cup opponents Southend United. While The Shrimpers were at WHL in december, losing 1-0 after extra time, it has been 9 years since The Tykes of Barnsley have been at The Lane, having played a Premiership game and an FA Cup tie during the 1997-98 season.

Stalemate in Wales

07/01/06

Spurs were this afternoon held to a drab 0-0 draw at Ninian Park as Championship side Cardiff City earned themselves a replay in the third round of The FA Cup. The Welsh outfit played their part in a game that was full of effort and endeavour but had little skill or flashes of brilliance.

Both sides did create chances to win the game, with Chopra coming close for The Bluebirds', and Berbatov and Defoe coming close for Spurs. The front pairing, otherwise, had a quiet afternoon as the rain lashed down on Ninian Park.

On the plus side for Spurs the game saw the return of both Robbie Keane and Aaron Lennon, with the pair appearing as second half substitutes.

Overall Spurs did look a little shaky, particularly the back line, with all 4 defenders and Robbo making individual errors that could have proved costly. Robbo in particular is going through a shaky spell, and i hope it is going to come to an end sharpish. The draw does Spurs no real favours with a plethora of games already on the horizon in the coming 6 weeks.

Gardner on his way to West Ham?

Spurs defender Anthony Gardner looks set to be on his way to Upton Park if reports are to be believed. The giant centre half has apparently already had his medical with the East Londoners as they look to add to their squad in their quest to avoid the dreaded drop.

Gardner joined Spurs from Port Vale in early 2000 and has built up an appearance record of over 100 games in Lily White. He was once the main central defender in the side, and was capped once for England during his most consistent spell at White Hart Lane.

Over the last 2 or 3 seasons his appearances have become more and more restricted, with injury and lack of form keeping him on the sidelines for the most part.

Transfer window rumours

Spurs, as always, have been linked with a whole host of players as the transfer window opens. "Silly season" as it might also be called. One name mentioned in various media circles is that of Bolton midfielder Abdoulaye Faye. The Senegal internationalist has been the subject of many rumours regarding his future, which does appear to lie away from The Reebok. Faye, pictured left, would certainly add some much needed steel in the middle of the park.

Other names that have been regularly mentioned as heading to Spurs are Ashley Young and Gareth Barry. Watford left sided winger Young is seen by many in the Spurs crowd as a player who could solve our problems in that area of midfield, although with Watford looking to add to their squad, with a relegation fight ahead, it seems they want to hold onto their prize asset. As for Barry, a Spurs fan incidentally, he would be a great signing in my own opinion but its not a transfer i can see happening in all honesty.

Derby County's Giles Barnes is another name being mentioned, and while the youngster looks to have great potential, he is probably not ready for The Premier League, much like Southampton left back Gareth Bale, yet another left sided player linked with us.

Yet another left - back, Leighton Baines, has been linked with us and this is the one player i would like to see join. The Wigan Athletic man has shown terrific consistency over the last 18 months in The Premier League, and beyond that when The Latics' were riding high in the Championship. Baines is still a youngster and is involved in the England set up at Under 21 level. He will surely be pushing for full honours in the near future. Baines is pictured on the right.

And yet there is more, with Curtis Davies of West Brom having been linked with us for some time. Arsenal are also said to be interested in the young centre - back.

Lucas Neill has also been mentioned and it was said that Manchester City right back Micah Richards would be White Hart Lane bound, but apparently Chelsea have upped their interest in him and he will be moving to West London instead of North.

All in all, it will be interesting to see how many of these stories are nothing more than poppycock, and how many have any threads of truth. Let the madness continue.

Cardiff calling, hopefully not the last time

Spurs will travel to South Wales on sunday, hoping that there will be a return a few weeks later. Cardiff, will of course, stage the Carling Cup Final, and perhaps the e-on sponsored FA Cup final too, should the building contractors at Wembley fail to finish the showpiece stadium by may.

Anyway onto the matter in hand, a potentially tricky visit to Ninian Park, to face Championship side Cardiff City in the FA Cup 3rd round. Spurs will know not to take the Bluebirds' lightly, having stumbled out of the same competition this time last season, with a 3-2 defeat at Leicester City. Whilst last season The Foxes were struggling going into the game against Spurs, Cardiff have made a good start to the season and they are still well in contention in the race for the play - offs. Their form has dipped a little bit in the last few weeks, but they will still pose a real danger, particularly in front of their infamous and boisterous home crowd.

On the injury front for Spurs it is possible Robbie Keane could return to the action after a 5 week lay off although whether he will be fit enough to start is unknown at this stage. Hossam Ghaly will certainly miss out after his teeth were kicked out at Pompey on monday and captain Ledley King will remain on the sidelines having missed the last three games also. Once again Calum Davenport is expected to deputise.

New signing Ben Alnwick may be in the squad, although Radek Cerny will be expected to keep his place as the reserve goalkeeper. Other new face Adel Taarabt is still waiting on clearance from the French FA, which should be finalised before the the trip.

Fulop gone as part of Alnwick deal

Spurs third choice 'keeper Marton Fulop has joined up with Roy Keane at Sunderland as part of the deal which saw Ben Alnwick swap the Stadium of Light for White Hart Lane. The young Hungarian failed to establish himself in the first team squad, with Robbo and Radek Cerny the mainstays of the squad.

The player signed from MTK had loan spells at Chesterfield and Coventry City as a Spurs player. It looked at one stage like the move to The Sky Blues would become permanent but it never materialised.

Two signings confirmed - more to follow?

The first Spurs signings of the january transfer window have been confirmed. Ben Alnwick has joined us from Sunderland. The 20 year old goalkeeper, pictured left, is regarded as one for the future, having already racked up first team experience with Sunderland including an appearance against Spurs in december 2005 at The Lane.

The other signing is that of 17 year old French player Adel Taarabt from Lens. He will be iniatially coming to Spurs on loan. Spurs Sporting Director Damien Comolli has went on record as saying he is one of the hottest properties in the French league.

Editorial - 02/01/07

Well that is 2006 out of the way, and it ended in dissapointing fashion, with Liverpool winning the final game of the year 1-0 at White Hart Lane, thanks to a Garcia goal. Despite a load of pressure and various chances we couldn't claw back the deficit.

On new years day we fared slightly better, drawing 1-1 at high flying Pompey. Harry Redknapp and his team are a hard nut to crack at Fratton Park and this has to be seen as a decent away point. We fell behind to a deflected Benjani strike on the half hour mark, but equalised on 50 minutes thanks to Steed Malbranque netting his second goal in Lily White. The match also saw a little controversy as early as the second minute when ex Spur Noe Pamarot caught Hossam Ghaly square in the mouth with a high boot. The Egyptian lost 4 teeth and a had a split lip and although he soldiered on he was eventually replaced by Danny Murphy at half time.

Liverpool our final footers of 2006

Liverpool will visit White Hart Lane on saturday to become our final opponents of the year. Matches between The Reds and Spurs are often close, especially at The Lane, indeed the last three have ended in draws, 1-1 twice in 2004-05 (one was in The Carling Cup) and 0-0 in last seasons opening game.
You have to look back nearly three years, to janaury 2004, to find a game that ended in victory for either side, Spurs winning 2-1 thanks to a Keano penalty and a rare Helder Postiga goal.

Of course the sides have already crossed paths this season, with Liverpool running out 3-0 winners at Anfield in september, with Riise, Kuyt and Gonzalez grabbing the goals, all in the second half. It was a game we looked like taking something from, until our collapse.

The sides may yet meet again - should The Reds progress past Arsenal in The Carling Cup they will play us over a two legged semi - final in the new year. The picture above is actually from a Carling Cup game, the aforementioned 1-1 draw from the quarter final tie in late 2004. Despite large amounts of Spurs pressure and chances a young Reds side held on for the draw, with a Kanoute handball giving them a penalty and a lifeline, and ultimately won the penalty shoot - out.

Spurs have at this time no fresh injury worries, and the team should look much the same as the one that beat Villa on boxing day. Hopefully the partnership of Dimitar Berbatov and Jermain Defoe will continue to flourish and we will be rewarded with another vital three points.

Home form continues as Villa beaten

Spurs today (boxing day) continued their fine home form as they beat Aston Villa 2-1 with a Jermain Defoe double doing the damage. After the dissapointment of saturday's 3-1 loss at Newcastle we bounced back to record our 12th home win on the trot.

Despite a fair bit of first half pressure we went in at half time at 0-0, and as the second half wore on remaining a stalemate you began to wonder if it was just going to be another one of those days. But step forward Jermain Defoe - an excellent double from the little man, the first after good work and a great low pass from Berbs, the second a driven left footer after the Bulgarian had once again set him up, this time with a wee glance of the head.

Villa did pull a goal back, and it was Spurs fan Gareth Barry who netted, on 81 minutes, after some poor defending by Dawson and Chimbonda.

Defeat at St. James' but Villa looming soon

Spurs today lost 3-1 at St.James' Park, for the second time this year. Newcastle were to goals to the good after just 7 minutes with goals from Dyer and Martens doing the early damage. Danny Murphy reduced the deficit on 15 minutes before Scott Parker rounded off the scoring 11 minutes from the interval.

Tottenham had lost Jermain Defoe during the pre match warm up so Murphy came into the side with Malbranque playing behind Berbatov. It was a tactic that failed to pay off on day Newcastle had a hardly untried back four.

We now face the prospect of a boxing day clash with Aston Villa, who must have felt like Dick Turpin last season when they left The Lane with a point after a very one sided 0-0 draw. Villa were today beaten 3-0 at home by Manchester United so they too will be looking to bounce back. Defoe it is said, should be fit to return on tuesday and one hopes that he will continue his good recent form at White Hart Lane.

Bolton fixture change

Our home match against Bolton Wanderers, originally scheduled for saturday 24th february, has been switched to sunday 25th of february, due to our Uefa Cup commitments.

Hopefully though, our involvement in The Carling Cup Final that same day, will see the game switched a second time.

Mabbs speaks of Feyenoord fears

SPURS legend Gary Mabbutt said this week it would be a "travesty" if Tottenham's Uefa Cup away tie against Feyenoord is played behind closed doors.

The Lilywhites have been drawn against the Dutch outfit in the last 32 - a repeat of the 1974 final - but Feyenoord could face further disciplinary action after been given a suspended two-match stadium ban when fans rioted before their game against Nancy.

The European governing body Uefa has appealed against its independent disciplinary tribunal's decision and want a more severe penalty, possibly for the sentence not to be suspended. The appeal will be heard in early January.

However, Mabbutt who helped Spurs to victory in the competition in 1984, believes it would be the Spurs supporters who would be punished the most.

"There is a real threat the away tie could be played behind closed doors because of recent trouble before one of Feyenoord's games," Mabbutt said.

"But it would be a travesty if it is and would punish the Spurs contingent. It is the first time in seven years the club has been back in Europe and our away support has been magnificent.

"I have been to all our away games in Europe this season and the fans have really enjoyed the games. Their behaviour has been incredible."

However, on the field Mabbutt feels that Tottenham will face a stiff task against the Rotterdam club over the two legs which are to be played in February. "We've got a very tough draw," he said. "I would have preferred to have drawn teams from Belgium or Israel.

"There's no doubt we've produced our best performances - apart from beating Chelsea in the Premiership - in Europe, especially away from home. I think we have exceeded our expectations and easily won the group.

"But we've got to beat the best teams if we are going to win it and the players will be relishing the games."

The first leg against Feyenoord will take place on February 14 or 15 with the return leg on February 22. If Spurs progress they will meet Braga or Parma in the last 16.

Spurs and Feyenoord have met four times previously in European competition, with two wins each.

Tottenham supporters rioted after their 1974 Uefa Cup final second leg in Rotterdam, following Feyenoord's 4-2 aggregate victory.

Tomorrow Tottenham, who recorded their first away league win at Manchester City  last Sunday, start their busy Christmas programme with a trip to improving Newcastle United followed by the visit of Aston Villa to the Lane on Boxing Day.

A sorry tale of our founding father

With thanks to "paisley yid" for this find, extracted from the Guardian, quite a sad tale of one of our most important forefathers. One of the most moving stories is that of the "father and founder" of Spurs, John Ripsher, the bible class teacher at All Hallows Church. He served the club as president for its first 11 years, stepping down in 1894 with Spurs, still amateur, playing in the Southern Alliance League at their own ground at Northumberland Park - the early days on the Tottenham Marshes had been rough. The last the club heard of Ripsher was in the early 1900s, when he had moved to Dover and gone blind. Lupson, dedicated in his research of these men, tracked down what happened: Ripsher had lost his health, could no longer work and in January 1906 was admitted to the Union Road workhouse where he died the following year. Lupson tramped to the Dover cemetery to find Ripsher's unmarked, overgrown pauper's plot, a shocking spot to contemplate the man's contribution to Spurs.

Spurs 1 Southend 0 - The goal

Late goal sees off Shrimpers and we look ahead to Toon

Spurs had a late Jermain Defoe goal to thank for putting paid to Southend United in last nights' Carling Cup quarter final at The Lane. Despite various chances to win the game a combination of poor finishing, the woodwork and Darryl Flahavan kept Spurs at bay until the 115th minute when on form Defoe finished a neat move.

With that tricky tie now out the way we can look forward to the semi - final next year, where we will play either Wycombe, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal. We will find out who on saturday when the draw is made.

Looking ahead to saturday we travel to face Newcastle United, who scraped a late win last saturday against Watford at St.James' Park. In april we lost 3-1 there, with one of our most inept displays of an otherwise decent season. The thing is Newcastle were not exactly at their best that day, so any kind of improved performance should see us come away with some kind of positive result. At least now we have that long awaited away win, achieved last week at City, and that in itself should build confidence among the players.

Next up - Southend United - 20/12/06

Spurs will welcome Championship strugglers Southend United to The Lane on wednesday for our Carling Cup quarter final tie. The men from Roots Hall are rooted at the bottom of the second tier after a string of poor results.

Despite their poor league form they will dangerous opponents, having disposed of Manchester United in the previous round courtesy of a Freddie Eastwood goal and a string of fine saves from keeper Darryl Flahaven.

Spurs of course toiled to get past League 2 Port Vale in the last round, requiring extra time before finally seeing off the men from Stoke 3-1.

Looking ahead, there is many very important games ahead over the next fortnight and beyond and it is likely that Martin Jol will change things about for this tie. Mido will be looking to start, with Berbs probably the man rested, and there might also be starting places for Gardner, Davenport and Stalteri.

City 1 Spurs 2 - The Goals

Excellent first half enough to beat City

Spurs this afternoon recorded their first away victory in the league this season. A terrific first half display saw Spurs tear into a two goal lead, abd despite the standard slipping a little in the second period we held on for a 2-1 victory to keep our superb record at the City of Manchester Stadium intact.

Indeed it is 12 years since The Lily Whites lost away to The Blues, and within 24 first half minutes it looked unlikely that proud record would be broken. From the outset Spurs were the better side, and Dimitar Berbatov had already saw a left foot shot cleared off the line by Distin before we opened the scoring in 14 minutes. A free kick was won out on the left, about 35 yards from goal and it was Tom Huddlestone who curled in a floated ball for Callum Davenport to guide past the outstretched Nick Weaver in The Citizens goal for the opener.

Spurs continued to hold the upper hand and it was no surprise when we went two up on 24 minutes. Huddlestone won the ball outside his own area, passed forward to Berbatov who then found Ghaly who had made a run from the right. The Egyptian held the ball up before chipping a pass to the oncoming Huddlestone who unleashed an unstoppable half volley past Weaver from about 25 yards. The technique and drive shown by the 19 year old was a joy to watch.

Before the half was up Spurs really could, and should, have been out of sight - Malbranque had a decent scissors kick deflected over by Richard Dunne with Weaver again beaten, and Berbs and Hudd had further efforts, with the latter curling one just over from 30 yards.

The second half began brightly enough, with Defoe coming close in the opening seconds, hitting the side netting after worming his way past a couple of City defenders.

Inevitably, with the game remaining at 2-0, City began to up the ante a little, taking control of the game, without looking overly dangerous. They did get what turned out to be a consolation though, on 64 minutes, when Dickov did well on the left flank before crossing for Joey Barton at the far post to volley home unmarked.

Despite a fair bit of possession the home side rarely threatened the goal of Paul Robinson, and although they might have been awarded a late penalty for a Malbranque challenge on Barton, it would probably have been hard on Spurs whose first half display merited the 3 points.

Now, at last, the monkey is off our back as far as an away win in the league is concerned and hopefully we can push on, with a visit to Newcastle looming after our Carling Cup tie with Southend in midweek.

Next up - Manchester City

Spurs will today visit The City of Manchester Stadium, hoping to keep our decent record there going. Last season saw a fine 2-0 win there, courtesy of Mido and Keane, and the season previous it was 1-0 with Kanoute scoring. In 2003 we recorded a 0-0 draw during the bleak David Pleat reign.

While our record there is a good one, City's home form this season has been their saving grace and we will have to perform to a similar standard as our last couple of games to come away with the points. On the squad front Dawson is suspended and its likely Callum Davenport will come in, having been given a run out on thursday against Dinamo Bucharest. Defoe and Berbatov would seem certainties to start as the front two, but take nothing for granted.

For me, Lennon must start on the right, to try and take advantage of the slow Ben Thatcher and the midfield who dominated so well against the Romanians should be kept the same for this one. Although there is a chance that Steed Malbranque may come in, with either Hudd or Ghaly the likely casualty.

Spurs 3 Dinamo Bucharest 1

Spurs 5 Charlton 1

Spurs 2 Boro 1

Arsenal 3 Spurs 0

Spurs 3 Wigan 1

Bayer Leverkusen 0 Spurs 1

Spurs 2 Chelsea 1

Next up Chelsea - Sunday 5th November

Spurs welcome Chelsea to White Hart Lane hoping that we can gain our first 3 point haul off them in nearly 17 years. It was back in february 1990 that Spurs last recorded a league victory against them, and it came at Stamford Bridge, with a 2-1 scoreline.

Need i say, it's far too long, and something that needs to be remedied as soon as, preferably on Sunday. With the confidence gained from the excellent display against FC Brugge, Spurs should go into the game in bouyant mood. The players we have here are more than capable of competing with them on their day, and if we can cut out costly mistakes, which seem to happen against Chelsea, and have a ref who is not conned by the Blues, then we have a real chance of a positive result.

Last season Mido being ordered off did not help our cause as we suffered defeat at the Lane, in a game we looked like controlling until Styles got out his red card after Mido' tussle with Asier Del Horno. And then of course we looked like snatching a draw at Stamford Bridge, and might have won if Jenas had not been wasteful, when a mistake by Stalteri allowed Gallas to score a winner right at the death.

This record has to go sometime and sunday can be that day, with the right system and attitude from the players. I personally hope Martin Jol sticks with the Keane/Berbatov partnership for this game as they looked like they just might be working an understanding. Whatever Jol decides, surely Berbatov must start - he looks a player who could and will unlock the Chelsea defence.

Spurs 3 FC Brugge 1 - The goals

Fine Uefa win just the tonic for visit of Chelsea

Dimitar Berbatov, left, stole the show last night as Spurs cruised past FC Brugge at the Lane. The Bulgarian scored twice and created the other for partner Robbie Keane as The Lily Whites won 3-1. Although the Belgians took a thirteenth minute lead, Spurs always looked more likely and ran out deserved and comfy winners.

With the prospect of Jose Mourinho and his Chelsea side coming to The Lane on sunday, Spurs will surely have gained much confidence from an excellent display against the men from Brugge. It is now over 16 years since we recorded a league victory over the West Londoners.

Next up Watford - Saturday 28th October

Spurs travel the short journey to Watford on saturday knowing that the Hornets will be buoyed after progression in the Carling cup. It was the first outright win Aidy Boothroyd' side have managed this season and Martin Jol and his men will have to be properly prepared to come away from Vicarage Road with 3 points.

Spurs are also going into the game after a good run of recent results, most recently the 5-0 win in Milton Keynes, where three of the strikers shared the goals. Defoe and Mido hit a brace apiece, while Keane scored in injury time after coming on as a sub.

Watford, to their credit have battled hard thus far, and were perhaps unlucky not to get more from some of their games, most notably at Bolton and against Fulham at home, where they battled back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2, only to throw away 2 points in the dying seconds. They have some dangerous players, with Marlon king and Ashley Young ones to watch, although King is doubtful for the Spurs game.

Spurs and Watford of course don't meet all that often on league business, so this match is something of a novelty. Watford have only played one previous season in the Premier League, in 1999-2000. Although they had aome memorable matches, including a victory over Liverpool, that season is probably best forgotten from their point of view. It also signalled the beginning of the end of the tenure of Graham Taylor in that part of Herts.

MK Dons - Carling Cup Goals

Spurs 1 West Ham 0 - The goal

Spurs triumph in Turkey

Spurs this evening recorded a fine 2-0 victory in Istanbul, cruising past Besiktas in the Inonu Stadium. From the off Spurs were pretty much in control and ran out deserved winners, with the Turkish side rarely threatening the goal occupied by Paul Robinson.

The Lily Whites had to start without Didier Zokora, who succumbed to a virus just a couple of hours before kick off, so Tom Huddlestone stepped into the breach. With both Dawson and King starting, we looked strong at the back.

With Assou - Ekotto and Pascal Chimbonda looking after the wider areas, we never looked at all in danger, and the midfield, comprising Hudd, Jenas, Ghaly and Murphy were in command for much of the match. Only Huddlestone, who was caught in possesion at times, was a little shaky, but overall he was fine.

With Berbatov and Keane battling upfront, we were always going to be a danger, and the Bulgarian in particular was a real thorn in the Turks side.

Besiktas early on looked as if they were intent on playing the game at a fast pace, but after the first few minutes Spurs started to come more and more into the match, and were rewarded in the 31st minute with the opener. Ghaly made a terrific run to recieve a pass from the right flank on the edge of the box, and whilst he should have had his shot away earlier, the keeper could only beat the ball straight back into the path of the Egyptian who gleefully took the applause as the ball flew into the net.

Soon after Danny Murphy managed to work some space on the left hand side of the box, but the narrow angle made scoring difficult and the keeper got the slightest of touches to divert the shot towards the corner flag.

As half time approached Besiktas briefly threatened, forcing a couple of corners, which were dealt with well by Robbo and his defence. Over the 45 minutes i would Spurs just shaded it and deserved their slender advantage going into the break.

Into the second half and for a while Besiktas were holding the ball quite well, without really causing too much panic in the all white defence. Being the home side i was expecting them to really up the tempo, but it never really got going for them and for that they would be punished.

In 63 minutes Dimitar Berbatov secured the win with a most delightful goal. He picked up the ball around 30 yards from goal, before turning a couple of players, and rounding the keeper to score. His overall performance was terrific and i hope there is more to come from this man, he appears an absolute class act.

Although it remained 2-0 it could and probably should have been more. Berbatov should have been awarded a penalty, and Keane crashed a shot off the bar just seconds after Berbs had scored. Late sub Defoe also missed a great chance when it looked easier to score, prodding wide from 4 yards with only the keeper to beat.

Overall a very good performance, with Jenas and Murphy doing well in the midfield, and Keano working hard, but the man of the match goes to the aforementioned Dimitar Berbatov.

Captain King passed fit for trip to Istanbul

Spurs captain Ledley King has been passed fit ahead of the trip to Turkey to face Besiktas. According to "Spurs mobile", the big centre back will be back to lead the side out in the Inonu Stadium on thursday.

Meanwhile, remember the match is being shown live on channel 5, with a 6pm kick off time.

Spurs gear up for trip to Turkey as group stage begins

Spurs will open the group stage of the Uefa Cup on thursday evening with a tricky tie in Istanbul. Besiktas, who play in the Inonu Stadium, pictured left, are perhaps the least fierce of the big 3 in the Turkish capital, but will provide a difficult game in a hostile atmosphere nonetheless. They have shed loads of experience on the europea front, having participated in the Champions League in recent seasons.

Spurs have injury worries over Ledley King and Callum Davenport, as well as Micheal Dawson and there has been talk that young Frenchman Dervitte may be drafted into the squad as cover with Tony Gardner also not a full fitness. Martin Jol will know that a point in this encounter would be a more than acceptable outcome and he will no doubt send his team out with a less than gung ho attitude. Of course 3 points would be a great return but most fans would happily settle for a draw.

Recent history suggests that 6 points should be enough to progress beyond the group stage and with Fc Brugge and Dinamo Bucharest to come at home as well as a trip to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen most would reason that this is a group Spurs should get out of.

Lily Whites through after tense 90 minutes against Slavia

Spurs made sure of progress in the Uefa Cup tonight, but only after a tense 90 minutes. We dominated the vast majority of the play but again found ourselves struggling to break the deadlock. Within the first 10 minutes we could have scored at least twice, but just failed to make the right connection, or the final ball was just out of reach.

Slavia, in their bright orange away kit, showed signs they are not a bad side, playing better than they did in Prague a fortnight ago. All the same Robbo was rarely troubled as we looked to break down their stubborn defence.

Spurs surprised some with the inclusion of young Swiss midfielder Reto Ziegler on the left, starting his first game of the new season. Callum Davenport was also handed a starting berth for the first time since the 2-0 home loss to Everton at the end of August, with Ledley King missing with injury.

The goal that won the game finally came on 80 minutes and it was Robbie Keane who shot home from the edge of the box after Ghaly knocked it down for the Irishman. Instantly the tension was lifted from around White Hart Lane, and although Slavia hit the outside of the post on 88 minutes, the final outcome was never really in danger.

On 90 minutes Keane had the ball in the net again after good work by the impressive Ghaly, but was correctly ruled offside. A minute later Ghaly again crossed, this time for Mido and from 4 yards he really ought to have scored, but instead headed wide with the goal gaping in front of him.

League form a worry but Slavia to look forward to

Well this season has no doubt brought everyone with Spurs at heart down to earth a bit with some poor results posted in the opening half dozen league matches. Since my last update we have been held to a scoreless draw at The Lane by Fulham, and whipped 3-0 by Liverpool at Anfield.

The Fulham match, we of course dominated for the most part, and is probably the most sided 0-0 i have saw in many a season. The Liverpool game on the other hand was painful viewing, no less due to the lack of room inside Anfield. It all though could have been so different had Jenas not missed the open goal a matter of seconds before Liverpool opened the scoring. I certainly believe we would have not shipped those 3 goals, and at least held out for a point.

Anyway, those games are consigned to the realms of history, and now we must move on. Starting with the Uefa Cup visit of Slavia Prague on thursday. The first leg was a most enjoyable experience for those present, and i only hope we can finish the job properly at The Lane. Hopefully the strikers will find their scoring touch, and give us a boost going into our encounter with high flying Portsmouth on sunday.

A great time in Prague

Having now been back in the UK for 24 hours, i feel the haze has lifted enough for me to write my bit about the trip to The Czech Republic.

Firstly it has to be said that Spurs gave the travelling fans the best we could have hoped for, winning 1-0, and that is a great result away from home in Europe. We probably could have scored more had we taken our first half form into the second period, but make no mistake, this was a deserved victory, with all in chocolate and gold doing their bit.

There is probably nothing much i can write about the game itself which you will not already have saw or have read about, but its worth recording that the goal that settled the game was a cracker from Jermaine Jenas. The midfielder took a great pass from Zokora in his stride, and smashed a low shot, well away to the keepers right.

The Rumours continue - 20:45

With a little over three hours remaining of the current transfer window the rumours around Spurs message boards and the wider media continue. According to some sources the Pascal Chimbonda saga has came to an end and that he will soon be confirmed a Tottenham player.

This deal, according to rumours, hangs in the balance though and could yet be scuppered should Stalteri and Davenport fail to agree a switch to West Bromwich Albion.

So slightly conflicting reports all round on the Chimbonda deal, so i guess its just a case of wait and see for now. There are of course other rumours doing the rounds - Downing, who left training with England today, is still of course being touted as a potential Spurs player come midnight. Also Lyon winger Ben Arfa is said to be a real target of Martin Jol.

Deadline day news - up to 16.45h

Spurs today have announced one definite new signing and its Fulham midfielder Steed Malbranque, as predicted on many message boards etc. The 26 year old Frenchman had been in dispute with Chris Coleman at Fulham, and was always likely to leave the men from Craven Cottage.

Sadly his debut is some time away, possibly mid november as he recovers from injury.

Leaving WHL is winger Wayne Routledge, who as part of the deal to bring Malbranque to Spurs, will join Fulham on a season long loan, with a view to a possible long term deal next summer. The England Under 21 winger has had no real luck since joining Spurs from Crystal Palace last summer, and fell behind Lennon in the pecking order when he picked up an injury early last campaign.

I for one wish Wayne well, as he is obviously a very talented lad, and its such a shame he has never really got the opportunity to showcase his talent in a Lily White shirt. Hopefully he can go on to have a good season in West London, and either come back to Tottenham raring to go, or at least get a good move for both he and Spurs.

Transfer talk + Lee to stay

With just hours remaining until the transfer window slams shut there have been various rumours doing the rounds regarding who may be coming and going from Spurs. Two definite deals at this stage are those of Mido and Rodrigo Defendi. Mido returned from AS Roma to join up once more with Spurs yesterday. Its now a more permanent deal after a reasonably good 18 months at The Lane on loan. Defendi, pictured left, never appeared in a first team game for Spurs, despite joining the club over 2 years ago.

One player who will be staying at Spurs is South Korean full back Lee Young-Pyo who turned down a move to Roma, citing personal reasons, said to be religous, for his decision to remain at White Hart Lane.

Among the players to be linked to us is Steed Malbranque of Fulham, with Danny Murphy a possible target at Craven Cottage.

Spurs lose to ten man Toffees - Reaction

Spurs yesterday blew an excellent chance of 3 points as they allowed ten man Everton a 2-0 win at White Hart Lane. An own goal from Calum Davenport, pictured, and an Andy Johnson strike ensured the Toffees won at The Lane for the first time since the Premier League's inception back in 1992.

Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane was sent packing around the half hour mark for two bookings, both fouls being committed on Lee. From there on in you would have expected only one outcome, a relatively easy and safe home banker for the Lily Whites, but a spirited Everton side had other ideas, and probably in the end just about deserved the three points.

Looking around Spurs message boards and also in the general media it appears some are suggesting the panic button be hit, but i see this as a real opportunity for the Spurs players to show real character and grit after what can only be descibed as a poor performance on the day. With only three points on board after the initial trio of games, and a trip to Old Trafford on the horizon, it wont come more difficult.

As Martin Jol has been quoted "Its just one of those poxy little days in England" and in truth he is probably right, Everton HAD to win at The Lane at some point, and yesterday was that day. Im sure we will get over it and recover to have another decent season on the domestic front, as well as hopefully an extended run in the Uefa Cup. For those who are the prophets of doom, i say lets all stop moaning about how bad things are and get behind Martin Jol and his troops. Jol, just a few short weeks ago was a prince amongst men, he suddenly then cannot become a pauper, so i believe he will get it right once more and start taking us back up that league table. Remember its not a sprint. COYS.

Toffees Next

Next up for Spurs is the visit of Everton to White Hart Lane tomorrow (saturday). The men from Merseyside have made a solid start to the new campaign with 4 points from 2 games.

Spurs draw Slavia Prague in Uefa Cup

Spurs were today drawn with Czech Republic side Slavia Prague. They are Prague's second side, behind Sparta. The first leg will be played in Prague on 14th september with the return a fortnight later at The Lane.

Heart of Midlothian have also been drawn to play in Prague on the same evening, against Sparta, so there may be some security concerns over having two British clubs there together.

Slavia have a reasonable pedigree in European games, being seasoned competitors. The club was formed in 1892 by students, and play at The Stadion Evzena Rosickeho which holds 19,032 people. Hopefully Spurs will get a decent allocation, though at this stage the club are in talks to secure as many briefs as possible.

Bolton photo gallery added

A selection of photos from our opening day trip to Bolton, with thanks to Richie for remembering his camera, and for most of the pictures, although some random would - be David Bailey types are to be thanked also for taking some snaps in the pub before the game. Not all the photos are online yet, but there is a selection, with the others to be added when i have the time.

Next up The Blades

On tuesday we play Sheffield United at The Lane, with a quick chance to recover from the loss at Bolton. Scotspurs match review is now up for The Blades first league trip here in over 12 years.

Another terrible day at Bolton

Spurs have tonight lost 2-0 at The Reebok Stadium against a Bolton Wanderers side who were hungrier on the day, and about deserved their win.

For the Bolton match report please click on the image to the left.

Trip to The Reebok ever looming

Well, only three more days until the real action begins in earnest, with the trip to The Reebok Stadium to face Sam Allardyce' Bolton Wanderers side.

Spurs are of course not exactly lovers of this particular arena, having a less than decent record there in the past. The Spurs players though, one would presume, will be confident going into the game on the back of an excellent run of results in the pre - season. Only a 1-1 draw in Dortmund stopped the players having a 100% record in the friendlies, and with new players Berbatov, Zokora and Assou - Ekotto all showing up well in these games.

Win over Sociedad completes unbeaten pre - season

Spurs yesterday completed their unbeaten pre - season campaign, rounding off a good month with a 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad at The Lane.
Jermain Defoe, pictured celebrating, and Michael Dawson scored the goals for The Lily Whites, Dawsons winning the game after the Spaniards had levelled Jermains super opener. Boss Jol will no doubt be extremely happy with the results posted since the games began in the French training camp at the start of July.
The three games in France produced wins over Bordeaux (2-1), Nice (1-0) and Celta Vigo (2-0). On their return to the UK, the team next faced Birmingham at St.Andrews, with Berbatov scoring twice in the 2-0 win. Stevenage were then put to the sword 3-0 with Defoe (2) and Berbatov on the scoresheet.
Then come the glamour friendly with Italian giants Inter Milan at the Lane. Teemu Tainio scored twice as we won 2-1 in front of a sell out crowd. There followed a trip to Germany to play Borrusia Dortmund at the Westfalon. Dimitar Berbatov scored a wonderful solo goal as the game ended 1-1.
So thats the pre season games quickly rounded up,and although they may only be friendlies, its pleasing that the Spurs players are playing to a decent standard against the calibre of teams they are likely to meet should we progress in the Uefa Cup. Another pleasing aspect of those games has been the flashes of sheer brilliance shown by our new striker Berbatov, the goal in Dortmund a particular gem.

Here we go again

Well here we are, almost ready to embark on a new season, one which we all hope will be just a little more happy than the last. While there can be no complaints at a fifth place finish in May, it was still a little dissapointing to fall at the final hurdle for that coveted 4th spot and the Champions League place that comes with it.
Over the pre - season things are looking positive, both on and off the pitch, and i see no reason why we cannot at the very least match and hopefully better last terms efforts. The signings of Berbatov, Assou-Ekotto and Zokora certainly seem positive and although it seems a blow to lose Carrick to Manchester United, i am certain we have players still here capable of doing as good a job as the former West Ham man.
While i am a believer in football loyalty, sadly it is proving few and far between these days, and it seems only money really matters to some. If Carrick made his decision on football alone then it may be a little understandable, given he now has the opportunity to showcase his talents with arguably one of the biggest clubs there is. However i also believe that Tottenham are on the way up,and while United are certainly not going to fall away, there is every chance that Spurs could close the gap a little over the next season or two.
Onto football matters and its been pleasing to see Spurs perform well and win all their matches in pre - season so far. Three good wins were recorded on the training camp in France, all against good opposition. Stevenage were beaten well and of course a Tainio double saw off Inter Milan at the Lane yesterday. Results such as these, regardless of their importance, can only breed confidence as we look ahead to the Uefa Cup campaign.
There are still a couple of friendlies to take place before the season proper begins, with a trip to the Dortmund on saturday and the visit of Real Sociedad on August 12th before we head for Bolton on opening day in what is sure to be a difficult opener. At least we dont have that Wimbledon kit anymore

ITS THE BIG ONE!

Saturday will see Spurs visit Highbury for the last time in what is shaping up to be the biggest North London derby for many a year.
With so much at stake the atmosphere is likely to be white hot, and events on the pitch are likely to be fierce.
For Tottenham is is important that we leave N5 with at least a point to continue our dream of Champions League Football, and our one advantage is the Gooners are in European action either side of this tussle and hopefully they are thinking of that more.
Of course in recent times Highbury has not been a favourite venue of many Spurs fans, with only the occasional point taken in this fixture. Indeed it has been nearly 7 years since the gods were smiling on the Lilywhites, when we beat them 2-1 at the Lane.
Team wise, Captain Ledley will of course be missing and there is still doubt over whether Mido will make it or not. Tony Gardner missed the Manchester United match and may be spared at Highbury as Calum Davenport proved an able partner for Michael Dawson at The Lane on Monday.

Massive 3 points at Goodison

On Saturday at Goodison a rampant Spurs side saw off the Merseysiders courtesy of a Robbie Keane penalty in the 32nd minute, right in front of the jubilant Spurs contingent in the ramshackle stand.
Whilst victory was not essential in this tie it was very important the points were not completely thrown away and an excellent team performance ensured the Toffees were never in the game.
However with all good comes bad, and with Captain Ledley King hobbling off in the dying seconds with an ankle problem, it now seems certain he will miss the Easter Monday clash with Manchester United at The Lane, and possibly the remaining three games thereafter.
Another real positive though from the Goodison encounter was the backing of the Spurs Supporters throughout the 90 minutes. To a man there backing to the side was second to none and certainly the most vocal for many weeks, possibly since Wigan back in November.
Anyway i hope you all had a great Easter and hopefully by this evening i will have another celebratory match report to write.

BACK AGAIN!

Well, after nearly 2 months of the site being frozen because of bandwidth problems, its back again, and hopefully here to stay.
Since the last update, post Sunderland, things have certainly been eventful at White Hart Lane as the team continue the push for a place in the Champions League. There have been a few very tense matches in the last 6 or 7 weeks, with Wigan, Blackburn and West Brom all visiting the Lane and playing well, with only The Latics leaving N17 with a point.
The visit of Blackburn on Sunday 5th March was a match in which the 3 points were expected but in credit to Rovers they played extremely well and were a little unlucky not to leave The Lane with at least a point.
Away from Tottenham there has been just 2 matches since the last update - a visit to Stamford Bridge where a great performance deserved more than a 2-1 loss courtesy of a late William Gallas goal. In the other away trip Birmingham were beaten 2-0 at St.Andrews in what was a solid team performance and one which deserved the three points.
Today sees us visit St.James Park, and although Newcastle are on an indifferent run, im sure it wont be an easy game, especially after the Toon have lost their last 3 games. Only Teemu Tainio is a doubt going into this one.

WELCOME

Welcome to Scotspurs, for fans of Tottenham Hotspur in Scotland. At present i am begining the process of starting a Spurs Supporters Club here and will use this site to give any updates on that. I was hoping to arrange a meeting for before Christmas but this is now looking unlikely and it will be early in the new year before this can hopefully happen. To become an official Supporters Club you must have 20 members who are also Spurs Members. At present i have about 10 people that are interested and the club are not being too helpful on the publicity side - only when the club becomes affiliated will they allow any advertising in any of their mediums, which is quite frustrating to say the least.
Anyway if you are interested in becoming a member then please contact me at tartanspurs@yahoo.co.uk and i will keep in touch as things move on. Following Spurs from afar can be an expensive business and i believe that having a few supporters who were willing to travel down together would make it far less costly. A trip to White Hart Lane costs me around £100 and thats not including the ticket or staying in a hotel and i reckon this could be halved and more if say 5 fans travelled together in a car.
Well its been a solid enough start for us and we can be reasonably confident of a place in Europe although being Spurs it would be unwise to count those chickens just yet!
